Where does the On The Road RV story begin?
As empty nesters we began our RV journey with a Subaru wagon on a 17-day cross-country trip to Florida to pick up our custom tiny teardrop. We were hooked the first night and instantly knew RV’ing would be our future lifestyle. We've since graduated up to a 3/4-ton truck and 34' travel trailer, no more sleeping on the ground, the “glamping” life was calling us.

However, summer road trips and RV’ing doesn’t come without its obstacles. Vehicles and equipment break down, sometimes getting us stranded in the most remote places with little or no services. Getting to your destination requires a bit of redneck ingenuity, the right tools and some good fortune to those who don’t give up. Its these unexpected detours that make for interesting stories beside a campfire and maybe questioning, "What have I got us into?"

After 35 plus years working in the Engineering field and later in Marine Sales, I had a desire to be my own boss, with the flexibility of traveling in our RV when the breeze hits. I decided to take my life and work experience and enroll at the National RV Training Academy in Athen’s, TX. Seemed like the perfect fit. We opened our business in August of 2023 to service customers traveling along Highway 95 in Northwestern Nevada. This is an underserved area in need of trained Mobile RV Service Technicians and this is where we believe the next chapter begins.

Owner and Lead Technician – Ken Smith
After years of back country camping in the Colorado Rockies in my youth, I carried on the tradition of exploring the outdoors tent camping throughout the Western US with my family. Discovering new places and introducing our kids to adventures outside our neighborhood cul-de-sac was something we looked forward to every summer.
I graduated from NRVTA completing the Advanced RV Service Technician Program and became a Certified RV Technician with RVTAA in July of 2023. With highly trained staff and a well-equipped facility, NRVTA is the only accredited RV Technician and RV Inspector School in the US. I've also completed 70 hours of course work and certified in Solar Installation and Generators.
We call home Walker Lake, NV. If you don't catch us here, you'll find us traveling the open road and helping others along the way.
